What's next for Land Trust waterfront site? Rossi floats civic center as a possibility By SEAN KINNEY Keynoter (FL) January 9, 2010With a Bahama Conch Community Land Trust development out of the question, what's next for Truman Waterfront property the trust had eyed?
A backup plan is far from concrete, but Key West City Commissioner Mark Rossi suggests using a former U.S. Navy building on the 6.6-acre parcel as the foundation of a future convention center.
The large building, although long disused, has the mechanical assets to accommodate a 3,000-meal-per-day mess hall.
"I think that mess hall could be very, very good integrated into the community," Rossi said. "I think it's a perfect place to have a civic center/convention center."
