The contamination at a rural school has reached new heights.

After years of P.C.B. and T.C.E. contamination cleanup, the state has 
found toxic vapors are now making it into the air Kuspuk School District 
students and facility breathe.

The old White Alice communication site in Aniak was converted into a 
school after the military abandoned the project.

A couple years ago, the state found there is P.C.B. contamination in the 
soil. Last year they found T.C.E. contamination in the ground water, and 
just recently, they found some of those contaminated vapors are making 
it inside the school and into the air.

"It does exceed the screening levels for indoor air, yes." Says John 
Halverson with the state Department of Environmental Conservation, which 
is over seeing the cleanup effort.
