Port of Corpus Christi gains over 300 acres of naval base property

The U.S. Navy transferred 336 acres of property at its Naval Station Ingleside to the Port of Corpus Christi as part of the Base Realignment and Closure process.

The transfer of 336 acres represents the first tract of land to be deeded to the Port of Corpus Christi as a result of the 2005 BRAC decision.

The Navy is slated to cease operations at Naval Station Ingleside and vacate the entire 912-acre property by September 2010. At that time, the Port of Corpus Christi will own and control the property. The base’s closure will result in the loss of more than 2,000 military and civilian jobs.
