[Rights of entry are an under-appreciated challenge for the Formerly 
Used Defense Sites (FUDS). Here there seem to be two problems: 1) The 
distrust caused by recurring land takings and 2) Right-of-entry 
documents that require them to sign away too much. - LS]


Army Corps barred entry to former bombing sites

LA JUNTA - Owners of land where three World War II bombing ranges 
operated have denied the Army Corps of Engineers access to check for old 
munitions sites.

We don't trust you, people living in the area told officials at a Monday 
meeting.

"After taking several questions and talking to the people it was obvious 
that landowners in this area don't trust us because of the taking of 
their land in the original bombing ranges and the taking of the land for 
the current Pinon Canyon Maneuver Site," John Miller, Corps project 
manager, said Tuesday. "They indicated that they have been misled too 
many times."
