City to take up Harts Lake sale Tuesday Nick Schirripa Battle Creek Enquirer (MI) August 20, 2007An effort to save Harts Lake and a couple hundred surrounding acres from development will be in front of city commissioners on Tuesday. In July, the Battle Creek Tax Increment Finance Authority supported moving forward with the sale of the 326 acres and preserving the lake and land as natural green space in the city. The deal involves the Battle Creek Community Foundation facilitating the $2 million purchase of the property — with an option to buy another 118 acres to the north for $1.2 million — which would be maintained by the Calhoun Conservation District as limited-use public space. ...Tsuchiyama said preserving the green space is important for the community, and the buffer around the Michigan National Guard and Fort Custer Training Center may prevent the federal government from closing the base in the future. ...
