Keep on Truckin' in Oceanside Commentary by JOE MARTIN North County Times (CA) July 18, 2007Each day thousands of trucks use Interstate 5 between Los Angeles County and San Diego. Yet, there's no truck stop, and the truckers need one. Southern California coastal land has been developed and become so expensive that there'll never be a truck stop unless drastic action is taken now. The good part is there's an easy solution that could be a real money-maker for Oceanside. The perfect spot for this truck stop is just north of Oceanside in the tomato fields.
The bad news is this land is controlled by Camp Pendleton, and with the military's view on encroachment, Oceanside will not get control of this property without serious negotiations. Actually, the truck stop would be in the military's best interest but I'm sure they wouldn't look at it this way when first approached.
