Countering contamination Corps tries to alter TCE in water By DUANE SCHRAG Salina Journal (KS) December 6, 2006 The soil at Kansas State University at Salina will turn purple next week but it won't be because of school pride. Instead, it will be the result of potassium permanganate injections designed to break down trichloroethylene contamination in the soil and groundwater. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is overseeing cleanup of contamination left behind after the former Schilling Air Force Base closed in 1965. The property is now home to K-State at Salina, as well as the Salina Municipal Airport and the Salina Technical School. ...
