Guard: Lead ban at MMR not neededBy AMANDA LEHMERT Cape Cod Times (MA) October 16, 2006 CAMP EDWARDS - Ten years ago, the Environmental Protection Agency made an unprecedented decision to ban the firing of lead ammunition at the Massachusetts Military Reservation, for fear that lead could contaminate the Upper Cape's primary source of drinking water. Last month Massachusetts National Guard officials launched an effort to lift the ban on lead, starting with a change to the base's environmental impact report under the Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act. If Guard leaders wants to start firing lead ammunition again, they will need to jump through several legal hoops - and pass muster with Cape residents. ...
