Ash will go to Texas nuke facility

State and local authorities have reached an agreement with BWX Technologies to remove uranium-contaminated lagoon ash from Allegheny Township this year.

The deal will move the ash from the former wastewater treatment lagoon at the Kiski Valley Water Pollution Control Authority's plant to a hazardous and low-level nuclear waste facility in Robstown, Texas.

The cleanup is scheduled to be completed by the end of December, according to state officials.
