After BRAC: Chamber Military Support Initiative Putting Focus on Jobs Development

By Ted Carter
Savannah Business Report (GA)
September 5, 2005

Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield survived the 2005 round of base
closings, but community leaders say there's a lot more work to be done
to increase the viability of the bases and to make the most of the
economic opportunities they offer.

Drawing more military operations and related civilian activities to Fort
Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield will be a principal function of the
Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce's Military Support Initiative the next
few years.

The Military Support Initiative, however, will continue efforts to
enhance the military value of Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield. The
Initiative will give particular attention to helping to carry out a
joint land-use plan designed to limit civilian encroachment onto the
sprawling Fort Stewart installation, said Bill Hubbard, Chamber
president &CEO.
