EPA recommends big relocation in asbestos-contaminated subdivision

Associated Press
April 28, 2005

A U.S. Environmental Protection Agency manager is recommending that
about 25 families with homes in an asbestos-contaminated Klamath Falls
subdivision be relocated to new homes.

If the EPA acts on the recommendation, it would be the largest
relocation it has undertaken in the Pacific Northwest.

Assuming that EPA supervisors approve the plan, the relocation could
begin before summer, said Dan Heister, who worked as the EPA's on-scene
coordinator for the North Ridge Estates subdivision. The asbestos
contamination resulted from demolition of buildings in the World War
II-era marine barracks at the site.
