Cleanup effort at former Finland Air Station to be discussed

Some messes, especially toxic ones, just don't seem to go away.

That's long been the case with the host of toxic hot spots discovered at
the site of the former Finland Air Force Station.

A community meeting will be held to discuss another of the cleanup
projects, this time for issues discovered at the former Road Cut Dump.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will host the informal meeting at the
Finland Fire Hall on Highway 1, Wednesday April 20, 7-9 p.m. to discuss
cleanup plans and alternatives.

John Miller of the Corps said the meeting will primarily focus on the
dump site, where test monitoring has revealed evidence of the presence
of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), semivolatile organic compounds and
heavy metals. Tests were done by trenching the site and other evidence
appears to indicate that the site was used mostly for residential trash
and other household and construction debris.
