Subject: [CPEO-MEF] Beale Air Force Base (CA) housing privatization
Privatization continues in face of closure

Efforts to privatize Beale Air Force Base's military housing continues
on despite the pending release of the Base Realignment and Closure list
by May 16, base officials said.

The privatization is in the second of a two-phase process, where
potential contractors who want to take over the housing submit to the
U.S. Air Force detailed plans on how they plan to manage housing.

"We're looking at each of those individual proposals and seeing what is
the best fit for Beale," said Capt. Mike Andrews, chief of the 9th
Reconnaissance Wing public affairs office at Beale.

The Pentagon wants new housing quickly and sees privatization as the
best, least expensive answer. The conversion is expected to save money
and let the Pentagon turn its attention to fighting wars.
