Subject: [CPEO-MEF] Whiteman AFB (MO) encroachment law compromise
Changes to zoning plan please most

Most Johnson County residents who opposed proposed state legislation
that calls for zoning around Whiteman Air Force Base are pleased with
changes in the bill.

Johnson County residents initially challenged the bill because it made
Knob Noster, a city where they have no vote, the governing authority
over the area to be regulated. The bill was amended from a 2-mile zoning
area around Knob Noster to 3,000 feet around WAFB and the "accident
potential zones," which extend two miles off both ends of the runway.

Rep. David Pearce, R-Warrensburg, changed the bill to give the Johnson
County Commission zoning authority. He said House legislators intend to
make the same amendment to the similar Senate bill.
