Subject: [CPEO-MEF] Poughkeepsie (NY) WW II site
Site investigation to begin a PURA-14 property

Mid-Hudson News (NY)

The Poughkeepsie Urban Renewal Agency 14 property in the City of
Poughkeepsie will undergo a detailed environmental study beginning in
early April.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation announced that the
5.5 acre parcel on the northern side of Pine Street would be the subject
of the study to determine the nature and extent of the contamination at
the site, as well as potential threats to public health and the environment.

The PURA-14 site was occupied by the Moline Plow Company for an extended
period of time prior to 1936. Several of the buildings were destroyed by
fire in 1939. The U.S. Hoffman Machinery Company used the undamaged
buildings during World War II to manufacture artillery shells for the
U.S. Navy until 1959. The American Chemical Fertilizer Company also
reportedly occupied portions of the buildings until the mid-1960s.
