More tainted wells found New EPA test detects low perchlorate levels in Forestdale water.
By AMANDA LEHMERT Cape Cod Times (MA) March 23, 2005
FALMOUTH - Neighbors in Forestdale are reeling after they received word that all the drinking wells tested on Peters Pond Drive in Forestdale have very low levels of perchlorate.
Six of the seven wells were tested.
The Army found perchlorate in the private drinking water well of the Moretti family on Peters Pond Drive last spring.
The recent detections, which ranged from an estimated 0.11 to 0.12 parts per billion, were found by the Environmental Protection Agency using a new test that can detect the substance down to 0.065 parts per billion.
The method used by the Army's Groundwater Study Program tests down to .35 parts per billion.
The detections seem to suggest that the perchlorate contamination in Forestdale is more widespread than first thought. One home on the road had tested positive for perchlorate since last May, but the other homes turned up nothing.
