Bush Names Panel on Closing Bases
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS New York Times March 16, 2005
WASHINGTON, March 15 (AP) - President Bush on Tuesday nominated eight people with ties to the armed forces to serve on the independent commission charged with closing military bases.
The president previously nominated Anthony J. Principi, a former secretary of veterans affairs, to lead the nine-member panel.
Congress authorized the fifth round of base closings last year. If confirmed by the Senate, the Base Realignment and Closure Commission will review a list of proposed closings the Pentagon must present by May.
