ATLANTA - Scientists assessing the possibility of further study into the
effects of water contamination at Camp Lejeune recommended Friday that
all parties involved would benefit from more communication and better

The seven-member expert panel, tasked with discussing the next steps in
an ongoing analysis of the health problems caused by the contamination,
made three key suggestions as it concluded its two-day deliberations in
Atlanta. They want to form a registry of all those who may have been
exposed to contaminated water from 1968 to 1985; forge an official
partnership between the agencies involved and the affected people; and
boost efforts to notify those who may be affected and know nothing about
the contamination.

According to federal guidelines, the panel is not permitted to offer
recommendations on behalf of the entire panel. Instead, each member will
provide his or her own recommendations that will be published in a
forthcoming report.
