Guard warns poachers to stay off training area

SALT LAKE CITY -- The Utah National Guard is trying to discourage hunters from poaching on a training ground near Provo, saying it has had several problems with the practice at Camp Williams.

Besides being illegal, it's also dangerous.

Live-fire training continues at the 28,000-acre training ground about 30 miles northwest of Provo, and old ammunitions on the property could kill or maim someone, officials say. Unexploded artillery dating back more than 90 years has been found.

People found poaching on the property face possible jail time, up to $8,000 in fines and forfeiture of their weapons.
