Landfill work not complete, says one man

PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD - The shipyard will host a ribbon-cutting
ceremony within the month to honor the final milestone in its project to
clean up the Jamaica Island Landfill, but at least one member of the
Seacoast Anti-Pollution League said he's concerned the task isn't
entirely complete.

James Horrigan said he's happy about the landfill cap, which will divert
water from the site on one of the shipyards five islands and block
buried toxic wastes from being washed into the Piscataqua River. 

But the installation of a barrier wall, which he and other members of
the Seacoast Anti-Pollution League pleaded for, was never built.
Horrigan says this could cause salt water intrusion to the area that
could wash out the toxic chemicals dumped in the area decades ago.
