Subject: [CPEO-MEF] Boxer, Eshoo Urge Moffett Wetlands Cleanup
Boxer, Eshoo Want Full Marsh Cleanup at Moffett Site

The ongoing feud over the fate of a Moffett Field wetland took a new
twist this month, as Senator Barbara Boxer and Congressional Rep. Anna
Eshoo sent a letter to a top Navy official requesting that all toxins be
removed from an area of the Moffett Superfund cleanup known as Site 25.
For the past two years, the Navy has said it will clean up only about 90
percent of the contaminants, which would prevent reconnecting the former
salt marsh to San Francisco Bay.

In writing the letter to Hansford T. Johnson, the assistant Naval
secretary in charge of environmental issues, Boxer and Eshoo have taken
the side of the City of Mountain View and local environmental groups in
a dispute that pits them not only against the Navy, but against the
wetland's owner, NASA, which says it will never restore tidal flows to
its property.
