Subject: [CPEO-MEF] 2nd ITRC UXO Training Course Scheduled for May 21-22

Following the successful inaugural training in Charleston last month, the next ITRC UXO Basic Training is being conducted in Boston, Massachusetts on May 21-22. On-line registration has opened on the ITRC web site (www.itrcweb.org). Please help spread the word about this training and forward this information to anyone you think should attend this course.

UXO Basic Training is a full two day, entry-level course designed to provide a solid overview of key environmental issues associated with ordnance and explosives cleanup. Program participants will be introduced to basic terminology, OE/UXO identification, safety concerns, regulatory requirements, conventional and innovative technology, site investigation and site remediation. Attendees will receive a course handbook including overheads and references used during the training. Training modules include the following: What is a Bomb?; Regulatory Framework; OE/UXO Technology; Site Investigation and Site Remediation.

UXO Basic Training provides a solid introductory background on key OE/UXO cleanup issues relevant to State regulator, Federal environmental program manager, and community stakeholder oversight responsibilities. It is not intended as a substitute for more comprehensive technical training required to handle and dispose of ordnance and explosives.

To register, please either go on-line to the ITRC website (www.itrcweb.org) and navigate to Classroom Training and use the UXO Basic Training link, or call Eileen O'Toole at 540-557-6007 if you can't register on-line. Training fees are $500 for industry and consultants, and $100 for federal agencies except for Department of Defense and military service employees (for whom a certain number of slots are available on a first come basis). ITRC will cover the fee for state regulators, stakeholders and tribal members. In addition, a limited number of travel scholarships will be available for state regulators, stakeholders (one per representative organization or advisory board) and tribal members.

Later 2002 training dates and locations are as follows: Seattle on July 23 and 24; Monterey on December 10 and 11; and a short 1/2 day course at the UXO Countermine Forum in Orlando tentatively scheduled for September 4.

If you would like additional information on the course, please contact Stacey Kingsbury either by phone (540) 557-6065 or e-mail (stacey_kingsbury@wpi.org).

Sincerely,
Stacey Kingsbury
