Schofield Barracks taken off EPA list

By Karen Blakeman
Advertiser Staff Writer

The Environmental Protection Agency this week removed Schofield
Barracks from its list of the nation's most contaminated sites.

Schofield was removed not because Schofield's groundwater supply
has been cleaned up, but because Army officials have done everything
possible to reduce the effects of the contamination and ensure it doesn't
spread, said Richard Seraydarian, a section chief in the EPA's Region 9
Federal Facilities Cleanup Branch.
