Oz contractor says Sunflower cleanup may cost less than $34 million

The Oz Entertainment Co.'s environmental contractor says it may be able to
clean up the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant for "significantly" less than
$34 million, according to documents released Thursday. 

The cost of the environmental cleanup at Sunflower has been a source of
controversy in the last year. The Kansas Department of Health and
Environment's project manager estimated the cost as high as $130 million. 

The cost is significant because it figures into the amount Oz will pay for
the 9,065-acre site, part of which it plans to develop as a theme park
resort. 

This week federal, state and Oz officials announced they had largely
completed negotiations to allow Oz to acquire the land in exchange for
ridding it of contamination.
