Oz interchange fails to attract high marks from panel

TOPEKA, KS - A gubernatorial task force, charged with scoring proposed
state highway projects, wasn't impressed with a proposed interchange for a
future Wonderful World of Oz.

The interchange was among the system-enhancement projects considered for
their economic-development value by a nine-member review panel, headed by
Lt. Gov. Gary Sherrer.

The $1 billion system-enhancement program is a component of the 10-year,
$13.4 billion transportation program passed by the Legislature in 1999 (see
related article). The panel's rankings were released Thursday at a news
conference in the lieutenant governor's office.
