The Oz Entertainment Co. has asked federal officials for the option
to delay taking over the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant by as
much as a year.

Any delay could push back development of a proposed theme park
and resort, and the request has raised concerns for state regulators
who will oversee the Oz environmental cleanup of the site.

Oz requested the option in the past month, but the federal
government has not decided whether to grant the request, said
Blaine Hastings, the General Services Administration official
overseeing the transfer.

The Oz company is negotiating to acquire the former munitions plant
in exchange for cleaning environmental contamination there.
