Neighbors Sue Plant for Polluting
By Brent Israelsen, The Salt Lake Tribune

Summary

Six residents suffering from non-Hodgkin's lymphona have filed federal
lawsuits against the owners of Trojan Explosives plant which polluted an
underground aquifer in Utah County. Residents claim Trojan knew since
the late 70's and early 80's that the plant was contaminating
groundwater. The lawsuits claims Trojan failed to take action and warn
others of the possible risks. It also claims the company hid
information from the public after discovering the presence of 10.7 parts
per million of the explosive chemical RDX in one of their monitoring
wells in 1986. The concentration is 5,500 times greater than the federal
drinking water health advisory limit.

"The Petersens believed eating organic, homegrown foods was a healthy
way to help combat illness when in fact ... for over 15 years they were
feeding themselves homegrown foods contaminated with explosives," states
the Petersen lawsuit.
