Stratford denied Army plant request RICHARD WEIZEL Connecticut Post May 12, 2007STRATFORD - Team Stratford's last-ditch effort to regain control of the former Army engine plant is apparently dead.
That means the Army's plan for the federal General Services Administration to rebid what officials believe is the town's key economic development project is "now all but guaranteed," Mayor James R. Miron said Friday.
Miron said a joint statement by the seven-member Connecticut congressional delegation rejecting the Town Council's request that Congress give the 79-acre property to Stratford and pay $150 million to the town to clean up industrial contamination on the site means Team Stratford's battle with the Army is "all but over."
"I thought what the council requested was worth going after, but we knew it was a long shot at best," Miron said. "The resolution called for too much, and there is now a course of action being put forth by the Army and GSA that I believe will finally mean redevelopment at the site."
