Boeing, officials discuss housing dispute

Just days before an expected City Council vote, Boeing Co. officials moved closer to an agreement with a developer that wants to build 3,000 homes next to Williams Gateway Airport.

Boeing officials and Mesa Councilman Scott Somers said both sides made concessions but still have issues to work out before a final agreement can be reached.

Boeing says the project would place homes too close to the airport and hamper the aerospace company's test flights. Executives said Thursday that the company could be forced to leave Mesa, taking along 4,700 jobs, if the airport is threatened by encroaching development like this subdivision.
