Unfortunately for many communities across this country, the economic benefits to the federal government of Defense Department consolidation through military base closures often prove detrimental to the very people who most strongly support our armed forces.

In San Antonio, promises from federal advocates for support, along with the combined efforts of both city and state officials, have led to the successful economic redevelopment of Kelly AFB. There are thousands of aerospace industry jobs in an area that is not just surviving but thriving, thanks to the Boeing Co.

Boeing anchors the redeveloped base. Under contract with the federal government, Boeing provides maintenance, repair, overhaul and support services for KC-135 tanker aircraft along with the C-17, C-130 and KC-10 programs.
