Cal State East Bay deliberating campus at naval weapons baseBy Ryan Huff CONTRA COSTA TIMES (CA) February 3, 20067 CONCORD - Cal State East Bay students face a frustrating task driving to their Concord campus, perched in the Mount Diablo foothills at least five miles from freeways. This access problem has led dean Peter Wilson to envision building a 200-acre campus at the former Concord Naval Weapons Station, not far from highways 4 and 242. The current location along the congested Ygnacio Valley Road "constrains what (enrollment) size we can think of and constrains the kinds of programs we can develop," said Wilson, who leads the Concord campus. "It's an issue we have to resolve." And the university has a bargaining chip: It could give about one-third or more of its current 386-acre property to the city as open space in exchange for some weapons station land, Wilson said. ...
