Camp Parks cleanup lacks funds Army hands off property and cleanup duty to developers By Ben Semmes Tri-Valley Herald (CA) July 26, 2006 A decade-long environmental cleanup at the U.S. Army's Camp Parks Reserve Forces Training Area is winding down, and local officials are hoping that private developers will agree to complete the project. The cleanup, which was initiated by the state's Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) and Water Resources Control Board in 1994, has identified 22 sites of concern spread throughout the 2,700-acre base, said Francesca D'Onofrio, a hazardous substances scientist with the DTSC. D'Onofrio has served as Camp Parks cleanup project manager for the last three years. The Army is expected to turn over a 187-acre parcel, roughly located between Dublin Boulevard and Fifth Street, to private developers while city officials are brainstorming ways to expedite the clean-up of that portion of the base. ...
