Baldacci unveils 'tax free zone'
Proposal would boost region's efforts to replace jobs lost in BNAS closure.

BATH — Gov. John Baldacci announced Thursday night that the economic incentive package he will present to the coming session of the Legislature would propose creation of a Pine Tree Economic Development Zone to include Bath, Brunswick and Topsham.

The designation, which would trigger tax breaks and economic stimuli for the region, would help in the redevelopment of the Mid-coast region as it prepares for and grapples with the aftermath of the closure of Brunswick Naval Air Station.
