Efforts after closure debated

Port, county focus on redevelopment of Ingleside base

Port and Nueces County officials disagree on what entity should lead the efforts to redevelop Naval Station Ingleside after its closure.

Port representatives said they best fit the role because the port is first in line to receive the property. County representatives said they want to create a redevelopment authority made up of various levels of governments and area organizations.

The port, county and other area stakeholders addressed to Pentagon officials Wednesday concerns about the regional impact of Naval Station Ingleside's closure and the acquisition of its property.
