BRAC help available to impacted communities

Local officials say there are many avenues of assistance for communities that are impacted by the base closure and realignment process.

Texarkana, like many communities across the nation, is slated to lose jobs through this year's base closure process, though officials are hopeful that such problems can be stemmed and jobs ultimately gained, considering the increased workload at RRAD.

With Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant slated to close and some programs moving away from Red River Army Depot, the area could lose about 700 jobs. Officials are still hopeful, though, that a plan to privatize LSAAP will work.

First among those assistance routes is the Office of Economic Adjustment, an arm of the Defense Department.
