City Pledges to Stop Encroachment

The city of Virginia Beach says being BRAC-listed is a wake-up call. The mayor has pledged to limit encroachment to keep the jets flying high at Naval Air Station Oceana.

"There is a commitment to wanting to maintain a viable jet base at Oceana," said Mayor Meyera Oberndorf on Monday.

Mayor Oberndorf said the City has proof of that commitment. Right now, all development plans submitted to the City are being made available to the Navy for study and recommendation.

"Promises, promises, promises," said Hal Levinson.
