Abington, Rockland and Weymouth must OK the reuse plan for the former Naval Air Station for it to pass By Elaine Allegrini Brockton Enterprise (MA) June 17, 2005 Mark Chirokas is raising his children on the Abington street where he grew up, but he says Spruce Street is not the same as it was 30 years ago and never will be again. "We as kids could play street hockey in the street, you obviously can't do that now," he said. Chirokas and others expect even more traffic on Spruce Street when the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station is developed. "It's just going to be horrendous," said Jackie Ranous, a 35-year resident of Spruce Street. But Chirokas said he is likely to risk more traffic for local control of a proposed plan for 2,855 housing units and 2 million square feet of commercial space on the 1,405-acre parcel that straddles Abington, Rockland and Weymouth. ...
