Army should not get off scott free Ernesta Kraczkiewicz Letter to the Editor Watertown Tab (MA) May 13, 2005 This coming Monday, May 16, at 7 in the Town Council chambers, the U.S. Army will hold a presentation and public hearing on their Proposed Plan for how to remediate the Charles River. The Proposed Plan is part of the ongoing Superfund cleanup at the Watertown Arsenal and embodies the Army's conclusion that "No further action is necessary to address sediment contamination in the Charles River." Watertown citizens who are members of the Restoration Advisory Board strongly disagree with this conclusion. Although the Baseline Ecological Risk Assessment that was carried out on the river sediments did not result in clear definition of what the Army's impact was, the Army has in the past admitted to being a contributor to the contamination of the river. ...
