EPA hosts meeting tonight on plan to finish cleanup of Superfund Site to prepare it for development

The Environmental Protection Agency will hold a meeting tonight to present a plan to conduct additional cleanup at the Koppers Superfund Site in the Charleston Neck Area.

PA’s proposed cleanup plan includes an estimated $30 million in additional cleanup work on the Koppers Co. site that will be implemented by developers under EPA oversight. The work will prepare the area for redevelopment into a new mixed-use community that includes residential and other uses.

The Koppers site is part of a larger area the city of Charleston has zoned for a mixed-use Brownfield redevelopment project, known as “Magnolia.” It includes commercial/retail use, office use, residential use, hotel use and civic and park space.
