TCE is contaminating the air inside some Nonantum homes: What you need to know

Groundwater contamination in a section of Nonantum is impacting the air quality inside some residences.

State environmental officials have been probing trichloroethylene (TCE) contamination for more than two years in that Newton village – and last month identified a property believed to be the historical source of the hazardous compound.

Vapors emanating from TCE in shallow groundwater are invading homes in the area, with at least 30 residences showing some sign of vapor intrusion.

Representatives from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) held a community meeting attended by roughly three-dozen residents Thursday night in Nonantum.
