State environmental officials detail Nonantum TCE investigation

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection has been probing groundwater contamination in Nonantum since 2014. The contaminant: trichloroethylene, or TCE, a chemical now linked to cancer that was once used in dry cleaning and as a degreaser of metal parts.

Last month, state investigators found what what they believe is the source site: 320-330 Nevada St., also known as 459-471 Watertown St., the site of an historic building now used as office space. It remains unclear what operations at that location may have caused the TCE contamination.
