Remedy proposed for Walden brownfield site contamination

WALDEN – A 1.5-acre site dating back to industrial uses in the mid-1800s will remediated once the state Department of Environmental Conservation signs off on a cleanup plan.

The former Packaged Lighting site property at 29 Grant Street in the Village of Walden has been found to contain chlorinated volatile organic compounds in soil and groundwater above standards.

The primary contaminant of concern, trichloroethylene is also present at significant levels in the soil vapor beneath the on-site building and poses a risk for soil vapor intrusion.
