Brownfield study opens door for Richfield development

RICHFIELD — You’re singing to the chorus.

That’s what Richfield Plan Commission Chairman James Otto basically said to a representative of Vandewalle and Associates after a lengthy presentation about future village development at the Commission’s meeting Thursday night.

The company was hired by the Washington County Site Development Steering Committee to conduct an environmental assessment of suspected contaminated sites in five county communities, including Richfield, and examine how they could be used for development. Scott Harrington of Vandewalle said the report studied specific areas in the village, but long-term planning is needed as well as a commitment from people who are willing to promote development.

“These are some of the same ideas the Plan Commission and the Village Board have been discussing already for several years,” Otto said. “It’s good to see others agree with what’s been discussed already.”
