Two Brownfield Sites In Fort Smith Returned To Use

Two Fort Smith facilities have been certified by the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality for completing the requirements of the Arkansas Brownfield Program.

The Brownfield Program, established in 1995, works to redevelop properties that have been contaminated through commercial, industrial or agricultural use. A property is successfully redeveloped when it can be returned to productive use.

One certificate was issued March 16 to the city of Fort Smith for rehabilitation of about 15 acres of land at 5501 Jenny Lind where a zinc smelter once was located, according to a news release from ADEQ.
