Village of Deerfield considers reclaiming brownfield site

The Board of Trustees of the Village of Deerfield met at the Village Hall for a regular meeting on Monday, July 27. Greg Frutiger, village president, had the roll called and the board moved to the business at hand, which mainly consisted of a presentation on the complicated issue of cleaning up a contaminated site for commercial redevelopment.

Representatives from Ayers Associates’ Terrace Drive office in Madison were on hand to give the board a presentation on the available funding and redevelopment process for reclaiming property located at 40 W. Nelson St., Deerfield.

Peotter asserted: “This property is a traditional brownfield site in our eyes. A former owner had released chlorine and solvents into the ground, and, I believe, the seepage knocked out your village well, resulting in it having to be abandoned.”
