FORMER NAVAL ORDNANCE PLANT AT ALLIED

According to its website, the EPA does not yet know whether there are human exposures to contaminants at the neighboring Superfund site at Allied Industrial Park, or whether the pollution there is still moving. There is a significant plume of TCE in the groundwater.

The Georgia Environmental Protection Division and the EPA have long unofficially identified the Navy as responsible for at least part of the contamination. The Army Corps of Engineers is responsible for cleaning up pollution from formerly used defense sites, but the corps has refused to clean up the south Macon site because it says the Navy wasn’t the only perpetrator.
