Twp, city to plug GM site at Brownfield conference

GRAND BLANC TWP. - Brownfield is a term which used to apply to an  
area previously occupied by a permanent structure and possibly  
polluted by industrial waste.

The term is less popular these days and is now more focused on  
economic redevelopment, which is definitely a term Genesee County is  
familiar with, especially in light of the recent decision by General  
Motors (GM) to leave Grand Blanc.

Township and city officials are not sitting on their hands however,  
even if it means making a policy exception which prohibits out of  
town conferences. The policy was part of a cost-cutting move on the  
part of the township recently, but the conference, to be held in  
Atlanta, GA, mid-May, is going to be a hot spot for community leaders  
looking to push their site as the one to be redeveloped, and both the  
City Manager Paul Brake and Township Superintendent Keith Edwards,  
plan to "sell" GM to prospective buyers.
