State, city officials kick off brownfield program

AUBURN |- While describing it as one of Auburn's "most valuable resources" state and city officials stood on the banks of the Owasco River Friday afternoon to reflect on the outlet's past and envision its future.

New York Secretary of State Cesar Perales and Assemblyman Gary Finch joined Auburn Mayor Michael Quill, Director of Planning and Economic Development Jennifer Haines and Director of Capital Projects and Grants Christina Selvek to announce the beginning of cleanup efforts of several industrial and commercial sites alongside the river.

The Department of State recently awarded a $389,338 Local Waterfront Revitalization Program grant to the city to help cover planning costs to revitalize 562 acres of targeted brownfields.
