EPA getting ready to clean up Richland landfill By Hilary Bentman Burlington County Times (PA) July 25, 2011A decade after a former municipal landfill in Richland was declared a Superfund site, EPA officials are finalizing plans to remedy the contamination there.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will spend an estimated $10 million to $12 million on a two-pronged plan to address the problems at the former Watson Johnson landfill site, part of a 56-acre property on East Pumping Station Road outside Quakertown.
Plans call for capping the landfill and injecting the groundwater with agents that will reduce the hazardous chemicals. Designs should be completed by the end of September and officials hope to secure funding by June 2012.
