Laird says it will start to clean up Water Gap site

An electronics company that accidentally contaminated soil at its former facility in Delaware Water Gap plans to begin cleaning up the site later this month, according to the state Department of Environmental Protection.

Laird Technologies is supposed to remove trichloroethene, or TCE, from the soil at its former plant at 1 Shielding Way, said Cydney Faul-Halsor, the DEP official in charge of monitoring the project.

TCE is used to remove grease from metal and is suspected to be a carcinogen. Laird, which manufactures antennas and other electronic products, has said that the soil was "impacted by TCE as a result of historical operations at the site."
